Atheist argue Against a moment of Silence

Earlier this year an Illinois law, called Silent Reflection and Student Prayer, was passed allowing schools to observe a moment of silence if they wanted. Now, new provision are being made to change the “may” to “shall” observe.

This new change does not sit well with a 14 year old girl and her father, reports a USA today article by way of the Associated Press.

What is your opinion? As a Christian, do you think that it is reasonable to require that one observe a moment of silence to reflect? Is this moment of silence a part of the learning curriculum, and should be implemented as such?

Some atheist may argue that this is a sneaky and underhanded attempt at keeping the church involved in state issues. However, for the Christian and even those of Islamic and other beliefs, a moment of reflection can be used for just about anything you desire. Including, (in the words of an atheist) reflecting on the underhanded, sneaky tactics used to get this moment of silence legalized in the name of school prayer.
